Older adults make up the largest demographic of potential new yoga students. The adaptable nature of yoga practices uniquely meets the physical, mental and spiritual needs of this population. The growing demand for yoga by seniors, age 65 +, presents both the opportunity for yoga instructors and fitness professionals to broaden their student base and the challenge of meeting seniors’ specific health needs and safety concerns. This training will reveal how yoga is especially suited to the needs of our aging community and provide valuable tools and resources for bringing accessible yoga to this demographic. The course includes a manual with instructions for six seated based classes, a relaxation script, and articles on yoga, anatomy, aging, age related illnesses and more. Upon completion of the weekend, students receive Certification in Chair Yoga with 18 CEUs for Yoga Alliance. This course also counts as a specialty workshop toward HereNowYoga’s 300 Advanced Yoga Teacher Training program. India Henson, ERYT-500, has over 10,000 hours leading classes and workshops and has been teaching chair yoga classes and trainings for 12 years. Becca Impello has worked with seniors as a physical therapist in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, home settings and through one on one yoga sessions. The workshop is appropriate for yoga teachers, yoga students, fitness and healthcare professionals.
