Introduction to Alignment-Based Yoga: Class 6 (Last one!)

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving vacation was cozy, loving, and special.  Here's a recap o the last class of the "Introduction to Alignment-based Yoga" 6 week series at Birmingham Yoga that ended last Monday, Nov. 24th.

We began with a supported chest opener over blocks (see the beginning of week 5) while focused on horizontal chest expansion during the inhalation.  After this short pranayama practice, we sat in Sukhasana, easy sitting position, with support of a blanket roll across the front of the ankles and under the knees.

There was a short discussion of the purpose of asana practice being to create the ability to sit still-- followed by a short silent, still meditation.

Asana Practice:

Supta Tadasana, Supine Mountain Pose (at wall)

Apanasana, alternate knee to chest (at wall)

Supta Padangusthasana I, Reclined Hand to Big Toe (bottom foot at wall)

Supta Padangustasna II. Extended Reclined Hand to Big Toe (with blanket roll under hip, bottom foot at all)

Adho Mukha Svanasana, Downward facing Dog variation, 90 degrees at the wall X2

Virabhadrasana II, Warrior II, with front knee on block at wall

Virabhadrasana I, warrior I, with front knee on block at wall

Prasarita Padottanasana, Wide Legged forward fold

Vipartita Karani, Legs up the wall pose

Savasana, Corpse Pose

The evaluation forms I asked you to fill out after class were very helpful, thank you all so much for your feedback and such kind, encouraging words.  There was enough interest to have another series, so a repeat of this series will be Monday nights, same time and place, from March 2nd- April 6th. Find out more information here. An "Introduction to Alignment Based Yoga: Part 2" series will begin directly after that one, on April 13th!

In the meantime, check out this special offer by HereNowYoga on private sessions!
